Flat head syndrome is most common between the ages of 6 weeks and 2 months old and almost always resolve completely by age 2 particularly if parents and caregivers regularly work on varying baby s positions when he s awake. Plagiocephaly and brachycephaly flat head syndrome babies sometimes develop a flattened head when they re a few months old usually as a result of them spending a lot of time lying on their back.

In fact some research suggests that close to 50 of babies have head flattening which means if you spot some irregularity in your baby s head shape you re not alone. The condition can cause the baby s head to look. A helmet is not often necessary since remodeling usually happens naturally by a year or two of age. Researchers found that 47 percent of 440 2 month olds having routine check ups had what doctors call positional plagiocephaly where the back or one side of the head has a flat spot.
